February 10, 2009
APIASF hosted a community reception at the DLA Piper Office on February 10, 2009 in Washington, D.C. Approximately 100 guests attended the event including Representative Madeleine Bordallo and Representative Joseph Cao. Representative Bordallo and Representative Cao each shared their own personal experience advocating for higher education and why APIASF serves an important role making higher education accessible. Michelle Rhee, Chancellor of District of Columbia Public Schools, also sent a greeting that was shared with attendees.
The focus of the evening was on the scholars, as each student had the opportunity to meet leaders from the Asian and Pacific Islander American community, not-for-profits, corporations and higher education. APIASF scholar, Margaret Cho, made remarks during the reception.
The reception was made possible by the generous support of Sodexo and DLA Piper. APIASF would also like to thank the scholars, attendees and community leaders for making this event such a success.
