All applicants must complete and submit the APIASF Scholarship application before being considered for any other scholarship.
APIASF/United Health Foundation Asian Health Scholarship
Due Date: January 25, 2010
Award: $5,000 (Distributed over two years at $2,500 each).
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity as defined by the U.S. Census
- Be a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States. Citizens of the Freely Associated States may apply
- Be enrolling in a U.S. accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student in the upcoming academic year. (Applicants enrolling in a 2 year community or junior college must have the intention to transfer to a 4 year college)
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted) or have earned a GED
- Must plan to pursue a degree in a major that will lead to a career in the health field.
- Must have fluency in an Asian or Pacific Islander language
- Must demonstrate the intent to work in an underserved community
- Preference for applicants who reside or will attend college in Texas, Illinois, California, New York and New Jersey
Additional essay question:
- In 250 words or less, please describe how your fluency in an Asian and/or Pacific Islander language will enhance your ability to help an underserved community as a health care professional.
